A big part of our job is to raise public awareness about the value and importance of trees. They really ARE super heros in our community, providing a long list of valuable benefits. Trees are important components of our green infrastructure helping mitigate storm water run off, shade pavement and extending its life and removing air pollution particulate.
We offer periodic random acts of advocacy to highlight the importance of our urban forest. For example:
- – Our information booth at events, such as Earth Day 2015.
- – Our innovative Tree Tag project which highlighted the dollar value of individual trees, a program adopted by several other Ontario communities.
- – Our photo exhibit pointing out that just about any tree can offer wildlife habitat.
